RE: Sticking throttle

I had this problem last year and it's back again this year.

Occasionally . . . usually when I've held the throttle steady at a certain point . . . the throttle mechanism seems to lock up and I can't squeeze the throttle and get any gas . . . usually after pushing and poking the thumb paddle it will come out of it . . . the other day it didn't until Snowflap was able to fix the sticking cable by touching it with his finger (what can I say . . . he is amazing!) . . . it seems like the throttle cable may just be sticking . . . is there any recommended lubricant or lubricated spray I should or can use to fix this problem?

I have a cable lube tool,   clamps around the cable, and then you spray lube (silicone) into the cable housing.  use to use it on the bikes, now ive gone to throttle by wire....  never had stiff or sticking cables on the sleds, so havent ever tried it there.

If the actual throttle mechanism on the handle bar is not seizing up and the actual mechanism where the cable connects to the carbs is not siezing up, I would just replace and adjust the throttle cable.  IMO this is something you don't want to mess with.  At the moment your experiencing a seized throttle that wont allow you to get any gas.  Think how bad it would be if this throttle issue siezed with gas on when you pull the rope, not a pretty scene.

your machine has lots of miles on it... It's  time to lubricate the cable & mechanisims... they make a special adapter to pressure lub the cables ...put the same lubricant on the attaching points...

this will allow free movement  &  remove moisture which could be part of the problem.

this is preventative maintenance, if it doesn't work, replace the cable assembly as the insides could be wearing & snagging

As it turns out I ended up pushing my luck a little too long and on my last ride before the rain came (back in late January) the throttle cable snapped . . . the one and only time my Skidoo left me out in the woods and wasn't able to get me home in over 10,000 miles of riding. Fortunately, I did get it fixed for not a whole lot of coin.
