Fox Rear Shock
01/02/10 at 3:50pm

My wifes sled is a 01 Polaris 500 XC that has a Fox Position Sensitive Rear shock.  The sled only has around 2k miles on it.  I know knothing about how these shocks work but the rear suspension sags quite a bit even when just pushing down on the seat by hand.  I noticed a schrader valve at the bottom of the shock so I tested the pressure with a shock pump used to put air in the shock from my old Road King.  Can air pressure be added to this shock and if so how much?  The pressure on the shock when I tested it was 0.  I know that these can be rebuilt which is not out of the question I just didn't know if I could put pressure in this shock.

Any thoughts

Poorboy,

I am just beginning to learn some info for the FOX Floats on my Nytro.  One thing you want to make sure of, is that there should be no weight on the rear suspension when, or if, you add air to this shock.

Idoo2, you're shocks are the the Fox Air Shocks, which are user adjustable with the supplied air pump.  The Polaris shock is a sealed, non user maintainable shock, and you should not add air to it.  It should be recharged with Nitrogen (I believe) by someone who has the proper tools and setup for rebuilding and maintaining shocks.

My bad.  I thought they were similar to the Fox Air shock.  Why would they have a schrader valve on the body of the shock if you weren't able to add or remove air?  On a side note, Hygear offers a rebuild kit for $40 per shock.

The valve is for nitrogen and not for the average joe to use.

You can have a shock completely rebuilt and recharged for $70 a piece.

on the edge is on target...  You contaminated the shocks by adding air to the mix...

My Indy XLT SP had Fox Shocks that needed a shot of Nitrogen to keep them fresh every year.

Time to have the fox shocks taken apart & freshend up  & new NITROGEN  added
