Working on my boys z370 starts hard cold but runs fine I have checked choke adjustment and carb is clean
any ideas? also what should approx compression be

We had a 370 that always started extremely hard the first pull of the year.  Also took forever when it was really cold but always ran fine.  I think the choke needs to supply more fuel than it does.  Give it a little throttle while choking.

You can sometimes get a hard starter to fire up a little easier if you set the choke on full and pull it over about three times with the "kill" off; then turn it "on" and give 'er a yank. This supplies the intake with a healthy shot of fuel for those cold starts. Those first pulls don't have to be hard yanks, just roll the motor over with moderate pulls

That's a good idea right there.  Would probably make it little easier starting the 8 hundie on those below zero mornings as well.  No electric start for me.
